Shontelle (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Kahungunu, Rongomaiwahine) brings a wealth of experience working in the public sector at both central and regional levels, as well as extensive experience working with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori businesses and Māori entities to advance Māori aspirations.  Shontelle has fostered her commitment to whenua Māori and Māori economic development through her previous roles with Te Puni Kōkiri, GHA (Glenn Hawkins & Associates), Callaghan Innovation and Tertiary Education Commission.  She was appointed Te Toihau Māori – General Manager Māori Futures in late 2023.
