This July school holidays Rotorua residents have the opportunity to see Scion science in action at our ‘Science in the city’ exhibition on display at 1201 Eruera Street.

The exhibition is part of Scion’s 70th anniversary celebrations, and will include a series of lunch time science sessions. Each week day from 12 to 21 July at 12.30pm a Scion expert will present a short talk, tackling topics including ‘Bugs and bioplastics’, ‘How revolutionary is 3D printing?’ and ‘How tall can a wooden building be?’.

Marketing and Communications Manager Christl McMillan says, “This year is Scion’s 70th birthday, and we’re using this milestone to talk to our local community about forestry science and manufacturing for the future.

“Being tucked away behind the trees, our work is largely behind the scenes. We’re really looking forward to lifting the curtain and showing all the ways that Scion has, and will continue to, drive innovation in New Zealand, positioning us for a strong, sustainable, biobased future made possible through forestry.”

The exhibition will also feature displays and demonstrations of how Scion science helps to grow, protect and use trees, how we optimise land use and build value for New Zealanders. There will be an indoor forest complete with plywood trees prepared with our 100% plant-based glue, and activities on hand to occupy future scientists. The exhibition will be open for the school holidays 10 – 21 July (excluding Sunday 16 July) from 10am – 4pm.
