Minister Reti's visit to Scion

A visit from the Hon. Dr. Shane Reti, New Zealand’s Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, marked the opening of Scion’s upgraded Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) lab earlier this month.

The NMR lab represents a collaborative investment in New Zealand’s bioeconomy.

Minister Reti’s visit also gave Scion an opportunity to showcase some of its leading innovations in industrial fermentation, circular economy and bioenergy, which are key in growing New Zealand’s sustainable, export-led bioeconomy. The tour gave the minister valuable insight into Scion’s work and how we collaborate with partners across the forestry sector, and highlighted our end-to-end approach that bridges science, industry and commercialisation to unlock new opportunities.

Minister Reti's visit marked the opening of Scion's upgraded NMR lab.

He also met with industry leaders – from Scion and some of our partner organisations – and left with enhanced knowledge of the breadth of research underway across Te Papa Tipu Innovation Park.

It was a privilege to have Minister Reti here to discuss how science and innovation can help grow a stronger future for New Zealand and to show how our partnership with mana whenua drives our work to support the Māori economy.
