Permanent Sample Plot Database

A Permanent Sample Plot

Scion’s Permanent Sample Plot (PSP) system is New Zealand’s most comprehensive plantation forest growth database. It has been used to investigate the effects of genetics, establishment practices, fertilisers and stand density on forest growth, health, and productivity.  The PSP system has been key to the success of the forestry sector.

The PSP system holds data dating back to the 1920s. The current digital format holds data for both experimental research and commercial growth plots. The data is sourced from permanent sample plots that have been established, and regularly measured, in different forest types throughout New Zealand.

Scientists and forest companies can use the data to understand how our current forests are performing and how future forests might grow under different conditions. As an extensive data resource, the system has had a high scientific impact.

The data in the PSP system is not publicly available.
